Leaders of a budding youth caucus in Kitui County have something to celebrate about after the Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya pledged to support the group.

The Speaker revealed this earlier today afternoon when the youth led by their Chairperson Mr. Derrick Ngenzi paid him a courtesy visit at his office in the Assembly precincts to seek collaboration in advancing the youth agenda.

While making his remarks to the 15- member delegation drawn from various wards across the county, Hon. Kinengo called on the outfit to fast track its registration with the Registrar of Associations in a bid to make it formal and a legally recognized association.

The Assembly boss lauded the youth terming them as “very organized” and called on them to be more aggressive in advocating the issues affecting them. “I am one of you and I am very positive about the youth leadership”, he said.

While reiterating the need for the youth to remain united, the Speaker also advised them to address the contemporary social problems affecting the youth such as mental health illnesses, depression, drugs and substance abuse among others.

On their part, the youth representatives sought to seek the County Assembly’s support in addressing pertinent issues affecting the youth population in Kitui County such as unemployment, access to government procurement opportunities and passage of pro-youth legislations by the House.

The team also sought intervention of the Speaker to establish ‘Youth Bunge’ sessions in the County. “Such forums which are already happening in other counties are important because they will enhance the involvement of youth in matters of legislative process,” Mr. Ngenzi pointed out.

The outfit also called on the Speaker to help the Kitui youth by ensuring the Assembly fast tracks the National Youth Policy, 2019 and push for its domestication to Kitui County to attain its effective implementation.
