HON. NDAGARA MEETS TARDA OFFICIALS
Hon. Muthengi Ndagara member for Tharaka Ward on Wednesday 16th November, 2022 met with Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) officials in their offices in Nairobi and discussed various issues touching on the proposed construction of High Grand Falls Dam by the British government. The proposed High Grand Falls dam is one of the LAPSET corridor projects under vision 2030 and is located some 50km downstream of Kiambere Hydro Power Station along Tana River in Kitui, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi Counties.
Last week, the government announced that they had signed an agreement with the UK government to fast-track the construction of this multi-purpose dam at a tune of Ksh. 425 billion and it will be a flagship project of the UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership. Hon. Ndagara urged TARDA to ensure that the affected locals are adequately compensated before being relocated to other areas. Hon. Ndagara also called on the ministry of lands to fast-track issuance of title deeds to the affected locals before commencement of the projects. Hon. Ndagara’s sentiments were supported by Tharaka Member of Parliament Hon. George Gitonga Murugara and his Mwingi North counterpart Hon. Paul Musyimi Nzengu who reiterated the need to adequately compensate the affected people.
