CS MVURYA MEETS KITUI COUNTY LEADERS
Today, Members of the County Assembly Committee on Environment, Energy and Minerals Investments Development joined H.E the Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe in his Office where he hosted the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya.
During the meeting, CS Mvurya made it clear that his visit to Kitui County was to discuss mining opportunities in the county and also agree on the modalities on how the two levels of government can collaborate in insuring the region reaps from the vast mineral resources. CS Mvurya further said that Kitui County is endowed with numerous mineral deposits which if well extracted can benefit the people of Kitui and Kenya at large.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Malombe urged the CS to ensure that investors who are given mining licenses are instructed to establish industries on site so that people from those areas can benefit. The Governor further said that the existing mining law should be amended to deal with illegal mining activities that has deprived the county of its revenue.
In his part, Hon. Muange who is the chairperson for Environment, Energy and Minerals Investments Development Committee thanked the CS for visiting Kitui County. ‘‘This sector has been unregulated for so long and am happy that you have taken this route and I assure you that we will support you on this’’, reiterated Hon. Muange.
Present during the meeting were; Cabinet Secretary for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands and Regional Development Peninah Malonza, Deputy Governor H.E Augustine Wambua Kanani, Dr. Makali Mulu (MP, Kitui Central), Dr. Rachael Kaki Nyamai (MP, Kitui South), Eng. Paul Musyimi Nzengu (MP, Mwingi North), Kitui County County Commissioner Kipchumba Ruto, PS State Department for Mining in the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Elijah Mwangi, County Assembly Leadership led by the Deputy Speaker Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka (Kyangwithya West), Members of the County Assembly Committee on Environment, Energy and Minerals Investments Development and a host of senior government officials from both County and National Governemnt.
