STATE OF THE COUNTY ADDRESS BY H.E. DR. JULIUS MAKAU MALOMBE
H.E. Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe on Tuesday 8th July, 2025, delivered his State of the County Address at the Kitui County Assembly Chambers, in accordance with Section 30(2)(k) of the County Governments Act, 2012, and Standing Order No. 18(1) of the Kitui County Assembly.
In his address, Governor Malombe highlighted the strides made by his administration, noting that within just two years and ten months in office, a total of 1,921 infrastructure and development projects have been implemented across all 40 wards. He described these projects as transformative and life-changing, underscoring their impact on the socio-economic well-being of the county’s residents.
A major highlight of the address was the establishment of the Kitui County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Kanyonyoo. The governor noted that the park will provide farmers with access to modern storage facilities, value addition processing, and marketing infrastructure. This, he said, will significantly reduce post-harvest losses, improve earnings for farmers, and open up access to competitive markets.
On the health sector, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare access and quality for all residents. He reported notable progress in the construction and equipping of health facilities across the county, including new dispensaries and health centers in underserved areas. These interventions aim to ensure that no Kitui resident travels long distances to access basic healthcare services.
Governor Malombe called for unity among county leaders, emphasizing that the people of Kitui are more concerned about development than political differences. “The profound duty and privilege of transforming the lives of our people falls squarely on us as leaders, both the County Executive and the County Assembly,” he stated. He urged all stakeholders to focus on service delivery and work together for the common good.
The governor also reiterated the importance of public participation in governance and development planning. He stressed that citizen engagement remains a constitutional obligation and a critical pillar of inclusive decision-making.
In his communication, the Speaker Hon. Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, said that the County Assembly will continue to engage the County Executive constructively while respecting the principles of the separation of powers.
The occasion was graced by several dignitaries, including Deputy Governor H.E. Augustine Kanani; Mwingi North MP Hon.Paul Musyimi Nzengu; Kitui County Commissioner Mr. Kipchumba Rutto; Mr. Moses Banda -Financial Services Advisor, State House; Mr. Bonnie Musambi -Director of Coordination, State House; Mr. Benedict Muasya -Commissioner, Commission on Revenue Allocation; Dr. Florence Makindi – Chairperson, Kitui County Public Service Board; Members of the County Assembly; the Judiciary led by Deputy Registrar Hon.
