HEALTH AND SANITATION COMMITTEE LAUDS ESTABLISHMENT OF CANCER CENTRE AT KCRH.

The County Assembly Committee on Health and Sanitation led by the chairperson Hon. Bernard Mwangangi Munyasya (Mwingi Central), today joined Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E Augustine Wambua Kanani at the Kitui County Referral Hospital during the launch of the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre at the facility.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Munyasya applauded Governor Malombe for establishing cancer centre at the facility saying the centre brings the much needed service close to the people. Hon. Munyasya further said that the County Assembly will support the County Executive in improving the general healthcare systems in all county health facilities. ‘’ I am aware that all these initiatives requires money, and the County Assembly will strive to support the county healthcare budget’’, added Hon. Munyasya.

Governor Malombe, in a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy H.E Augustine Wambua Kanani reiterated his commitment to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services to the Kitui citizenry. ‘’ The establishment of a cancer centre at Kitui County Referral Hospital was one of my deliverables in my maiden speech as your governor. I also promised to upgrade Kitui County Referral Hospital and Mwingi Level IV Hospital to Level V Hospitals. Thus, the establishment of this cancer centre is part of the prerequisite requirements for the conferment of Level V status of this hospital’’, Governor Malombes’ speech reads in part.

The momentous event was also graced by Kisumu County First Lady Madam Dorothy Nyongó, President of the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) Madam Mary Beth Powers, Director (Africa & Asia) Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation (BMSF) Madam Chiritabel Semondile, Members of the County Assembly Health and Sanitation Committee, County Executive Committee Members, County Chief Officers and a host of other leaders.
